Derbyshire Memoirs
Six years after founding the Institute of Quarrying in North Wales the Derbyshire and North West branches were officially inaugurated in Buxton on Saturday 23rd October, 1923. Our first Chairman was Tom Ryan, Managing Director of T. Ryan, Somerville Ltd., (Hillhead Quarry), and the Secretary Frank Frith of S. Taylor Frith Ltd., (Dove Holes Quarry).
Historic records for the early years of the branch are scant although it is known that meetings were held at the Grove Hotel, Buxton and later at the Lee Wood Hotel, Buxton. In the 70s the meeting location moved to Bakewell at the Rutland Hotel and then across the street to the Wheatsheaf Hotel. The past two years has seen the meetings at its present location of the Waterloo Hotel in Taddington.
Anyone who can infill the blanks in this information should contact the branch secretary.
