A Dictionary of Quarrying Terms

Contents

Preface

This source of reference is based upon a handbook originally compiled by Roy Sheppard and since edited and extended by several members of the Institute.  It provides a convenient source of reference to some 1,500 terms in current general usage, mainly in the aggregate-producing sector of the quarrying industry.

‘A dictionary of quarrying terms’ includes expressions to be found in the range of subjects covered by the Institute’s Professional Examination, namely: quarrying operations; quarry engineering; safety and legislation; and aspects of management and administration. Also included are terms relating to mechanical and electrical practice, geology and surveying as well as concrete and asphalt technology.
