Approved Qualifications

Entrance to the Institute's corporate grades of Member and Fellow normally requires a relevant academic qualification at the level of Higher National Certificate or above. A list of Approved Qualifications can be found here.

Courses & Establishments

 

University of Derby

In 2007, The Institute signed a partnership agreement with VoD by which the university delivers a distance learning course and The Institute undertakes the responsibility to maintain the accuracy, currency and relevance of the teaching materials.  The course prepares students to sit an examination for a Diploma in Quarry Technology accredited by the university with a value of 180 CATS points (equivalent to half a degree).  This diploma replaces the IQ Professional examination.

Doncaster College

Doncaster College has been associated with courses in minerals for many years, originating in the town's close association with coal mining. The College was recognised within the quarrying and road surfacing industry as a leading centre for education and training but the former Doncaster Assisted Private Study (DAPS) courses have now become Diplomas of the University of Derby (2007).  Many past students now hold very responsible positions in the industry and take an active interest in training.

Camborne School of Mines (University of Exeter)

The University of Exeter's Camborne School of Mines offers a three year BEng Mining Engineering degree course (J110).  CSM is presently preparing the syllabus of an MSc postgraduate degree course for introduction in September 2008.

University of Leeds

The University of Leeds offers a three year full time degree course in Mining and Mineral Engineering (J190).
