Landscape & Restoration
Simon Higson from SLR Consulting Ltd
Simon Higson is a Technical Director with SLR Consulting Ltd., a Chartered Landscape Architect, Chartered Horticulturist and Member of the Institute of Quarrying.
Since joining SLR in January 2004, Simon has provided landscape planning, assessment, design, implementation and management advice in relation to a wide range of mining and minerals project work. Prior to this Simon spent five years with Hanson as an in-house landscape and restoration specialist.
The National Planning Policy Framework requires that planning authorities should provide for the restoration and aftercare of mineral sites at the earliest opportunity and that this is carried out to high environmental standards. In particular, the web-based [National] Planning Practice Guidance (PPG) requires that any new site or any significant extension to an existing working should include a landscape strategy.
The upcoming webinar will review landscape and restoration considerations for mineral operators, with recent and generic examples.
Simon’s recent paper “What Landscape Strategy?” from 2016 EIG Conference has now been published on their website, available here.
