Underlining and demonstrating their professionalism, an enhanced approach to CPD was called for from the Institutes membership. The drive behind this being to raise standards whilst adding further recognition to those carrying the designatory letters: FIQ, MIQ and TMIQ.
The changes further enforce the recognition of these individuals, underlining their commitment to staying current with changes in best practice, technology and legislation relevant to them in their roles.
Unanimous support for the arrangement was received from the membership in the AGM, 15 December 2014 and the new requirement for Technical Members (TMIQ), Members (MIQ) and Fellows (FIQ) will take effect 1 January 2015.
The new requirement calls for a minimum of 30 hours of Continuing Professional Development to be undertaken each year, although attaining in excess of this level is actively encouraged.
The new proposals mean any member from the aforementioned grades could be called upon to submit their CPD record as part of an annual audit, which will be required to ensure an individual’s membership at the current grade is retained.
Although the new requirement to maintain an individuals membership doesn’t currently extend to Associate or Student grades (retired members may also choose to opt out of this), the Institute are actively encouraging all members to record and undertake Continuing Professional Development as a means of demonstrating their on-going commitment to maintaining their qualifications and competence.
If you are selected for audit, a request for your CPD record will be sent out with your membership renewal notice in December 2015, the deadline for return of these being 31 March 2016.
