Application Procedure
Application should be made using the application form either downloaded from this site or obtained from headquarters (see the Contact Us page).
This procedure should be followed both when first applying for membership and when applying for transfer of grade or ‘promotion’. No transfers between grades are automatic.
Reference to the ‘Frequently asked questions’ will be very useful when completing the application form.
Applicants for the corporate grades of Fellow and Member must attach a copy of the relevant qualification. Do not send original certificates.
The applicant must obtain the signatures of a ‘proposer’ and a ‘seconder’ who must be corporate members of The Institute and testify to personal knowledge of the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
Do not send any money with the form. The Institute will acknowledge receipt of applications and advise the applicant in writing of the entrance fee, if payable, and the subscription fee. The Institute may also contact the applicant if the grade applied for is not appropriate.
Only when the form is completed satisfactorily and the money has been paid will the application be presented to the Membership Panel. This Panel makes recommendations to Council to elect applicants as members or transfer members between grades.
Applicants will be notified in writing of the result of their application normally within one month of paying the appropriate fee.
In due course, the newly elected member will receive a membership certificate.
