Honorary Fellowship Rules

Honorary Fellowships are awarded by Council in recognition of very distinguished service, either to the Institute or to the quarrying industry, at the highest levels.

Rules

  1. In the case of Institute members awards are only normally made in the following circumstances:
    1. the successful completion of a period of office as International President
    2. in recognition of a major contribution to important work of the Institute such as educational development
    3. to mark the retirement of a long-serving official who has made a major contribution to the progress of the Institute
  2. Honorary Fellowships for service to industry can also be made to both members and non-members. Such awards are quite rare but have included very senior Mining Inspectors/Engineers and a few 'captains of industry'.
  3. All awards are administered by the Policy Committee and nominations should be submitted to the Secretary by 31 December for consideration the following year.
  4. The nomination must be made in confidence without the knowledge of the individual concerned and it is therefore recommended that the Nottingham office be approached for advice before a written submission is made.
