Technical Paper Awards

Introduction

The Institute nationally presents prizes for papers presented or published during the year. In addition a number of branches offer awards presented at their meetings or submitted in competition. The winners are determined by a sub-group of the Education Committee which includes the Secretary and honorary officers and/or committee members. Presentation of the awards is made at the Annual Conference. The Institute’s national and international awards are as follows:

Caernarfon Award

Endowed by the North Wales branch from income raised in 1987 by a seminar on the proposed Quarries (Explosives) Regulations.

The single prize recognizes the best international paper for its technical merit, either in its coverage of advances in quarry practice or innovations designed to increase efficiency in some aspect of ‘quarrying’, in its broadest sense.

The award is made annually to a winning author, based in the UK or overseas (being either a member or a non-member of the Institute) and published in an Institute journal. The value of the award is up to £1,000.
