Description

The Derbyshire branch are delighted to announce their next technical meeting will be The Cement Rock Story presented by David Griffiths, Senior Geologist at Saint-Gobain.

David has a Geology degree from Durham University and an MSc in Mining Geology from Camborne School of Mines. He spent 2.5 years in Western Australia at Gold Fields, Agnew underground gold operation, working in exploration and mine geologist roles. He has 8.5 years experience at British Gypsum in geologist roles and is now the Senior Geologist at Saint-Gobain.

David's presentation will cover the history of Fauld mine, opened in 1838, the adjacent Peter Ford mine and subsequent explosion in 1944. Followed by the acquisition by BPB, production of cement rock in 1992 and why there is the requirement for gypsum in cement, which will lead into, and conclude, with the modern-day mining operation and what the future holds for Fauld Mine.

Refreshments will be available from 17:30 before the presentation start at 18:00.
