Yorkshire branch announces future events for members

yorkshire branch - kevin parkerYorkshire is the UK’s largest county. Home to two National Parks, it is visually and geologically one of the most diverse regions in the country and has a rich industrial history of mining and quarrying from Roman times through to the Industrial Revolution.

As a branch of IQ, Yorkshire has been supporting members since 1927. During the pandemic, the branch switched to online events to keep members engaged and to continue to provide access to CPD opportunities. With restrictions easing, the branch is carefully returning to face to face events.

Kevin Parker FIQ (pictured), is Yorkshire branch secretary and Managing Director of Lightwater Quarries. He has been actively involved with IQ since the 1990's.

“I have seen many changes over the years but the pandemic was one of the most challenging. We were pleased to be able to adapt our branch events to an online format but excited to be returning to physical events. The ability to meet face-to-face with people working across the sector is invaluable. It’s good to meet peers and build up a rapport; after all, one never knows when you might want to borrow a drum of hydraulic oil or ask for a contractor recommendation.”

Yorkshire have planned a programme of face to face events to take place every 2nd Tuesday of the month at The Bridge Inn, Walshford. The first takes place on Tuesday 12th October with a presentation from Adrian Jurg, HSE Quarries Inspector.

To ensure that these events are covid secure, attendance numbers will be limited to ensure social distancing can be maintained and temperature monitoring will be taking place at the door. Registration in advance is essential for those wanting to attend and the Branch Committee reserve the right to turn people away at the door.

Details for the event are:

Date: Tuesday, 12th October
Speaker: Adrian Jurg HSE Quarries Inspector
Topic: HSE Hot Topics
Venue & Time: Bridge Inn, Walshford. 6pm buffet for 6.30pm start.

To book please contact John Ross. All future events will feature on the fortnightly IQ event email or view all events anytime via the IQ Connect app.

The branch is also pleased to announce that the annual highlight, the Yorkshire Branch Dinner Dance, is set to make a return on 2nd April 2022 at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate. IQ members are urged to put the date in their diaries and further details for the evening and booking will be released at a later date.
