Dubai set the stage for innovation as The Mining Show 2025 brought together the biggest names in quarrying and mining. With thousands of attendees and cutting-edge technology on display, the Institute of Quarrying (IQ) stood out as a strategic partner, driving conversations on sustainability, digital transformation, and the future of the industry.
IQ joined a prestigious lineup of global industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers at the 17th edition of this influential event. The show featured over 250 exhibitors, 150 expert speakers, and more than 5,000 registered attendees, creating a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and showcasing the latest technologies.
A highlight of IQ’s involvement was a Fireside Chat featuring IQ CEO James Thorne, IQ Honorary Vice President Javier Munoz, and Yousef Jawabreh, Mining Expert at the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.
Their session, “Capacity and Compliance: Raising Quarrying Standards and Capacity to Fuel Broader Mining Sector Development,” explored strategies to strengthen operational standards, enhance compliance frameworks, and build capacity for sustainable growth across the mining and quarrying sectors.
IQ’s presence at the show included participation in panel discussions, technical sessions, and networking forums focused on sustainability, workforce development, and digital transformation.
James Thorne commented:
“Our focus is on advancing best practices and accelerating digital transformation while ensuring people remain at the heart of progress. By leveraging smart technologies alongside human intelligence, we can deliver better outcomes for a more sustainable industry. This is about creating systems that integrate innovation, skills, and values to meet global challenges head-on.”
At its dedicated stand, visitors learned more about IQ’s membership services, training programmes, and internationally recognised qualifications, reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to professional development and excellence worldwide.
James Thorne also delivered a keynote presentation, “Quarrying in the Age of Intelligence: Aligning Smart Technologies with Sustainable Purpose,” which highlighted the industry’s turning point and the need for smart choices:
• Smart technologies as enablers of sustainability and efficiency
• Workforce upskilling to close digital and ESG skills gaps
• Global collaboration to accelerate innovation and resilience
