Industrial Sands in Great Britain - Small but perfectly formed - Well Almost!
Description
The second technical evening in the Yorkshire Branch calendar is a talk by Nick Horsley of the MPA, presenting; Industrial Sands in Great Britain - Small but perfectly formed – Well Almost!
There is a well known saying that you don’t get diamonds as big as elephants and when compared to the construction aggregates market, sales of industrial sands in Britain are small hovering around circa 5mt per annum. But don’t be fooled in to thinking that small is insignificant… we can leave that to central Government.
Industrial sands support a diversity of downstream industries adding £billions to the economy. The presentation will look at the importance of those markets and at the measures taken by industry to ensure the supply for industrial sands is not overlooked in Government Policy.
As a geologist and chartered town planner, working in the mineral planning field since 1983, Nick’s career has been varied having spent time in Local Authority, geotechnical consultancy and the extractive industry prior to joining the Mineral Products Association in 2016. He has extensive experience on Environmental Impact Assessments and planning policy issues. Nick has been involved for many years with the EIG Conferences Committee, CBI Minerals Group and the UK Minerals Forum since its conception. He is the Director of SAMSA and Director of MPA Wales, as well as covering the Northern Region of the MPA, including the North East and North West Aggregate Working Parties. Nick is a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and a Fellow (FIQ) of The Institute of Quarrying (IQ).
