Description

The next Derbyshire Branch technical event is a presentation by Andy Littler with 40 years of case studies and practical examples highlighting that - Quarries can really benefit biodiversity.

Andy Littler joined our industry in 1976 with the then ARC. Almost from the outset he began experimenting with turning old mineral sites into natural habitats filled with native flora and fauna. Latterly Andy was a Tarmac Area Director and MD of our local Longcliffe Quarries. Along the way he was involved in the first two Quarry BAP's (Biodiversity Action Plans), one here in our county.

Today, Andy offers free advice to the quarrying industry and is involved with biodiversity in the wider sense through the County Wildlife Trusts, Butterfly Conservation and others - even golf courses! He believes passionately that mineral workings, both during and after extraction offer huge opportunities for natural landscapes and UK species to thrive.
