Description

The Yorkshire branch are delighted to be hosting Paul McWilliams, Technical Director at Duo Group, for a presentation on the Horton Quarry Railhead Reinstatement Project (Heidelberg Materials/Duo Group). Paul will discuss their involvement in the project and the challenges which were overcome.  Horton Quarry’s rail connection, removed in the 1960’s, has been reinstated after roughly 60 years.  This brings rail freight back to a site that has been producing limestone and high‑quality gritstone since 1889. The project was partly delivered by Duo Group for Heidelberg Materials UK, with support from Network Rail. The reinstatement will have significant environmental and logistical benefits for the area: Cutting heavy lorry traffic through the Yorkshire Dales National Park, reducing noise, congestion, and emissions. Supports greener freight: rail freight is far more carbon‑efficient than road haulage. Boosts regional construction supply chains, especially across the Northwest. Buffet Supper at 18:00 with the Presentation starting at 18:30 prompt. Date:  Tuesday, 13th January 2026 Time:  18:00 Buffet - 18:30 Presentation Format:  Face-to-Face Venue:  The Bridge Hotel and Spa, Walshford, Wetherby, West Yorkshire, LS22 5HS
